Thursday Though’s: Change is coming, again?

Greetings to another post here on Zephirah’s Adventure. Thank you so much for stopping by. I have been thinking about changing daily topic’s again. As a challenge for myself, to show what I have been up to in life, and honestly change is good.

Here is what is going on in my head as far as topic’s! The list is as follow’s:

  • Monday: Meditation
  • Tuesday: Tabletop (D&D, Magic! The Gathering & any other tabletop game!)
  • Wednesday: Warcraft!
  • Thursday: Thursday Thought’s
  • Friday: Feature (Anything I am interested in – not just gaming related!)
  • Saturday: Weekend Warrior (A wrap up of the week, what is going to be expected for the following week, and anything I would like to banter about!)
  • Sunday: No blog post

I am not sure about this just yet. This is not set in stone. Seems like a good plan however.

What do you think?

Zephirah’s Musical Adventure: Jim Butler!

Greetings, this week in the musical adventure I wanted to do something a little different. I have been listening to Jim Butler for a number of years. About 12 actually. I remember when I first listened to his music on a cold January morning in 2007.

I found his “Dark Ambient 2.0” podcast fairly early on by looking for something to listen to via iTunes. Once I started to listen the vibe felt different then what I was listening to at the time and was hocked instantaneously.

Recently I have been listening to a slew of classical music when I am at the gym with a mix of chill house music. I know that sounds weird as all get out but it helps me keep my own pace. The following video from Jim I have also incorporated into the list of things to listen to as while working out.

I find that the sound the singing bowls assisted me with focus, staying mindful, and having the ability to work out to the fullest with out having some thumping noise in my headphones. It chills me out to a point that is unexplainable.

So far, it has been working for me. I have lost nine pounds so far. That makes me feel happy and in the long run I will become a healthier version of myself.

Feature Friday: Alternative Chat!

Let me start with the following statement. With any featured blog, video, tweet, or any other from of commentary I post to the blog those are though’s of that particular person. I in no way want to sway their thoughts or opinions. I would rather like to have a conversation on the topic at hand. I am not going to openly have a salty take on things here either.

In other words, if you are going to be a jerk, this is not the place for it.

On that note, I found Alternative Chat’s “The End of the Innocence” post interesting. You can read their entire post here! (Clicky Clicky!)

In their post, and I am quoting here. “I am not here to tell you how to spend your cash. I cannot also reasonably direct anyone to stop enjoying something they clearly love and appreciate based on business decisions. The whole mantra of ‘let people enjoy what they do’ needs to continue to be sung, for as long as people have the capacity to do so. How that happens is nobody else’s business but yours.” That statement I absolutely agree with. Who are you, Alternative Chat’s author, any other player of Warcraft, and I to tell anyone to tell someone how to spend their money? I find people that do that type of thing incredibly insulting and to be quite honest an absolute jerk bag.

Alternative Chat pointed out the new mount on the Blizzard store was only meant to be for Korean player base. I will entertain the idea that they have in their post as well that it is a flying, blue colored mount that is a skin of the fox mount from Legion that could be obtained via your Class Hall Mission table. I was lucky enough to get the said mount in my collection. I use it often. Honestly, I do not know weather or not I am going to spend the cash to get it because of the other various mounts in game that I have yet to get to drop that I, as a collector, would love to have.

Is it a cash grab? Sure. Whatever terms you want to use there. However, paying for mounts from the Blizzard online store is not something new. This is also true for Battle Pets. (My previous statement about collecting in game Battle Pets in game over purchasing them still stands in this situation!)

Basically, with the changes within the company recently, one that is out there for making money. With the end of the Heroes of the Storm esports and the release globally of the mount, in the long run, making money is in mind. Do I hate that people lost their jobs? Hell yes. It is also just before the holiday season. It just plain sucks.

I just hope that their is some way to work things out in the future to have the esports for Hero’s at a smaller scale. I know people love that game and the esports behind it. How to accomplish that? I have no idea.

*sigh*

Basically, if you like the mount and want to get it – do so. If not then don’t. Also, remember that there are people behind the pixels. You know, actual humans. Practice being kind even if you do not like what happened.

Book Of The Month: The Iron King!

6644117November’s book of the month is The Iron King by Julie Kagawa! This novel is the starter for the “Iron Fey” series about a young lady named Meghan Chase,  who finds herself drawn into the world of the Fey.

I read reviews about the book and the main character, Meghan, had her little brother taken and replaced with a changeling. She has an adventure and tries to find her brother.

I am super excited to get started on the book and it should be a great read. I will have a follow up review!

If you are interested in reading the book check your local library. My local library has an app that I can use to read the book via my kindle! If you would like to support the author, please purchase the book at the following links!

Featured Blog: The Pink Dice Chronicles!

12pcopaquepinkwithgoldIt is refreshing to see a Dungeon Master share their thoughts via a blog. It explain’s everything from how they started their journey with Dungeons and Dragons, their thoughts on various rules, and a plethora of issues that can and have come up during their sessions.

I would strongly encourage reading a blog like this. It gives a player of Dungeons and Dragons a different perspective. Also, for as infrequent as the post are for this particular blog in question, it still provides solid content and great commentary on a verity of topic’s.

Take the time to read “The Pink Dice Chronicles” here!

Now I want a set of pink dice, thanks! 🙂

Feature Of The Week: Ten Candles!

I know, for the most part, my feature’s on the blog and podcast have been Warcraft related blogs. I am currently in a weird head space with playing Warcraft currently and I am searching other interest. One of the many things I am looking into are table top games like Magic! The Gathering, RPG’s like Dungeons and Dragons, or a plethora of other games in the RPG space.

My younger sister recently started to watch a few different things on Twitch. One of those channels just so happens to be HyperRPG. (https://www.twitch.tv/hyperrpg) It is mostly because she loves the power rangers and the channel has a few of the current cast members featured on the channel. Yes, she is a nerd in her own way, and I absolutely love her for it.

HyperRPG host a tabletop RPG by the name of Ten Candles.

Ten Candles story telling table top role playing set in the genera of tragic horror. You can play with any number of players and among them one would be the game master. Their job to describe the world, to control the antagonistic them, and generally act like a narrator and referee. The rest will create and play a single character, a survivor fighting against the apocalypse and the creatures in the world. Ten Candles isn’t about winning or about beating evil/darkness. It’s about how the characters face their darkest hours. It’s about how they slowly lose their humanity, their traits and their hope.

Each character has a vice, virtue, a hope, and a brink. A brink is hidden trait from all of the other players and details what they are capable of once pushed to brink of terror, despair, sorrow or deviation. This trait is only available once everything else has been “burned” by the candle.

Also, a set of voice recordings are used once the final recording in case the other players find it and they hear their final message to the world.

The core rules of Ten Candles recommend playing in the dark by the light of ten tea light candles. Playing in the dark may be difficult for individuals who are visually impaired, while fire can be a strong anxiety trigger for several people. The rule book also recommends actually burning pieces of your character sheet while you play. Again, for individuals who are uncomfortable around fire, this can be a concern. A game and group can avoid using the fire if they so choose entirely or use battery operated candles.

For some basic understanding, a light is extinguished by failed conflicts. The story would move forward at that point. In the case of use of real candles – an accidental extinguished candle would also break the scene. (If not using candles or using battery operated candles, the game master would prepare a way to properly deal with how the candles could be accidentally be put out and review that with the rest of the players.) At the beginning of the next scene, there would be a series of truth’s spoken by each player including the game master and the story would continue on from there.  As the game approaches it’s final scenes and the candles are dwindling, Conflicts get more difficult, and the power of narration slips from the hands of the players into the hands of the game master.  The last candle means one person is left alive and to extinguish the candle would also end their life.

I know that is a lot of information about the game, but that is the general way on how the game is played – without the character creation. I am very interested on seeing how that would work and possibly work through a game as a one off deal.
