Marconi Union Weightless

“Weightless” is a song by Marconi Union that was created in October of 2011. Not a lot is known about the artist or song other then a random article online that I had found.

The article says some studies were preformed on the piece and several others and it was found to reduce up to sixty five percent of the listeners anxiety. If you are interested in reading the article you can find it here.

Also take a moment to listen! It actually is incredibly beautiful.

Headstrong: Blast From The Past!

cb328d36ee4ca13081ab86c2542f6437-1000x1000x1“Headstrong” is the debut single by Trapt and the lead single from their 2002 self-titled debut album. It is a confrontational song about starting a fight. Honestly it is funny that I enjoy the song so much because that is exactly the reverse of my personality.

My senior year of high school is when the album was released. The moment I listened to the single and album, I absolutely fell in love with the sound.

Headstrong has been in various playlist since 2002. It is definitely awesome to hear a blast from the past still be in rotation.

Zephirah’s Adventure: Science Of Sound

According to Wikipedia, Psychoacoustics is the scientific study of sound perception and audiology. More specifically, it is the branch of science studying the psychological effects and responses associated with sound (including noise, speech and music).

I know that we as humans perceive music and sound differently depending on your mood, the time of your life, and a plethora of other variables. It makes me wonder how many sounds we are familiar with and sounds we can identify easily and know where they are coming from. Wired put out a video late last year with two sonic branding experts explaining the thinking behind some of the world’s most recognizable sounds.

I find this stuff to be fascinating. With so much wonders in the world we tend to forget the sounds that surround us have an affect on in some way. If you need more of a visual, I have linked an info-graphic that explains a the psychology of sound, it is definitively worth taking a look.

https://www.myihp.co.uk/the-psychology-of-sound/

My sudden interest in reading about the science of sound is due to the recent shift of musical choices that I have become acquainted with. I know everyone is different and has different taste in music; however, science and sound has always been in our life’s in some form or fashion. Even if we do not notice or acknowledge it.

Here is an example of some of the music I have been listening to recently:

Hopefully, I did not bore you with my nerdy fascination of science and sound. The next music post will be some newer stuff that I have put in my play list for raiding in Warcraft!

The Pharaoh: Musical Motivation!

pharaoh_coverartIn mid 2000, just shy of a year after it’s release, I stumbled on a game and once I spent a little bit of time with it I knew I was hooked.

What game you ask? Pharaoh. It is an isometric city-building game that was released on October 31, 1999, created by Impressions Games and published by Sierra Studios, for Microsoft Windows. I know that I have spent a lot of time previous to this release playing other similar games; however, this drew me in because of the complexities of the goals that you must reach in order to move on and the music.

The management of your city in Pharaoh is a very hands-on experience. It engaged me since the inception and honestly, the music was a huge part of that experience. It in comparison to various other games in the current market is vastly different and honestly, it is still fun if you want to get your hands into something other then the other popular games at the moment. I do not know any other video game that has exclusive Egyptian themes that I would dive into because Pharaoh has spoiled me that much.

The video above is a very good example of what you would hear in the game. I always found the movement in music like this amazing. For a 19 year old game to keep me engaged, and in large part due to the music, is very impressive.

Let’s get weird!

Yes, boy’s and girls, lets get weird but not in the way your thinking. Ew, Dont even go there. I am talking about music, silly.

For the last two weeks I have had three songs in my head and each song is very different. The first being Hollywood Undead’s Medicine from their ‘Notes from the Underground’ album. The group has been described as a rock rap group and usually I do not go for a style like this. As far in left field in comparison to the the other two song as it is, it has a theme of some pretty harsh realities that can happen in someones life.

Take a listen to the song:

The second song is Hunter by Galantis. Swedish electronic group comprised of Christian Karlsson and Linus Eklöw. The song is from their album “The Aviary”.  It is also the seventh track that features uncredited lead vocals from Hannah Wilson. I know with in the last month or so I have been a lot of this style of music in a verity of ways. Honestly, this version of the song has me so excited. When the bass dropped so did my heart.

Listen to the song:

The third song has grabbed my attention pretty swiftly. “In The Name Of Love” by Martin Garrix & Bebe Rexha is a pop inspired electronic song that has sunk its fangs into me. The song is a future bass that consist of an awesome blend of piano, bass, and guitar that hold together the song in such a way that forces you to pay attention.

Listen to the song:

So, with all the songs presented to you at this point. What has strung these specific sets of songs together for me?

The short answer: My Character in D&D currently. (I will not spoil things here kids. Sorry!) The longer answer: Just how will Zahara approach a situation that is will be in front of her eventually? I feel like the answers lay within the music here somewhere. How exactly, I am not sure. It will just depend on the adventure that she is involved in.

If you enjoyed any of the music you listened to today, please support the artist. Do not be that guy that steals music from the internet. That is just the douche way about going about it.
