Warcraft Wednesday: How To Be Unpopular in the Warcraft World!

Greetings fellow gamers. In this Warcraft Wednesday post we are going to talk about toxicity within the game we love. Just as a note for the readers, I am not painting the entire player base like this. I also know a bunch of players that are absolutely fantastic. This post is also generalizing a lot of situations or things that I have seen happen within the game. Hopefully you do not have to deal with this type of thing within Warcraft.

So, lets start with Trade Chat. Trade Chat at times can be filled with name calling, political talk that turns ugly, or some random conversation that turned bad. I honestly do not mind to have a conversation with someone or a group of people that I happen to disagree with. The only thing I ask for is the conversation be civil. No need to turn to name calling or be nasty with someone who just so happens to have a different opinion. That type of situation is getting old and honestly, most players are of an adult age. We as a whole should know better. I often find myself other not paying attention to chat because of it or putting trade chat in its own window in the UI and not ever clicking on that tab.

The second thing I want to address is instances. Not the mechanic’s or the instance themselves. What I am talking about here is when a tank or a healer or random dps does something wrong or does not have enough healing power to heal through the massive amount of damage, more often then not it turns into a slug fest among the players verbally. For example, one of the ranged DPS randomly pulls another pack and one of the others in the instance says “Hey, healer, you *$#^@ suck. Why did you let me die?” or something along the lines of “Tank, you suck” or whatever. Then the conversation goes no further. It sometimes comes to the tank, random DPS, or healer being kicked. For those of you that do that, it is a shame. Really. Player characters have names you know. At times it can be a complete shit show!

I know there are some players that do not really know how to play their class or they have picked the wrong class for themselves. I absolutely understand that and honestly, it is a valid point. I am not suggesting that a player give up on their toon either. What I am suggesting is for a player to spend the time learning the class they are working on and for the player base to give a player time to learn and be kind and try to use what you have to teach if you know about their class. Not be “that guy” and be rude.

This has been on my mind for a while and thank you for allowing me to spill my guts.

Warcraft Wednesday: When It Is No Longer Fun!

At this point in my Warcraft play time that I have, I am not having as much fun as I would like to be. It is less about game design and more about where and how I want to spend my time in the game.

Warcraft, of course, has it’s minor issues. The player base has been vocal about the issues as well. Overall, it has been a hit or a miss for the vast majority. For me, Battle For Azeroth has been fun for what time I have spent with in the game, with the exception of my choice of a main. I have played a priest for the longest time and for the life-span of the character, RNG has not been great to her. Toss on top a 5% reduction of damage overall for shadow priest, not having the haste that she needs currently (due to not having drops in her favor), I have shifted to just doing World quest and whatever weekly that is available for the week.

Island expeditions, for as quick as they can be to plow through (2 hours tops to have it done for the week), is not holding me over.

I know what a lot of responses will be. Play holy. Honestly, that is my least favorite spec and I have not played discipline enough within the last year or more that I am horrifically out of practice.

So, a new class it is. Recently, I have been having a lot of fun with leveling Hunters or learning about the Demon Hunter class. I have not fell on what class I would like to continue with as of yet; however, I have options.

At this point, taking a few weeks off other then raiding is also an option.

Just a few thought’s I have had for this week, and I am thankful that Blizzard is continuing to create a game that I still enjoy.

On that note, I am going to level and come to a decision soon on what to main. Also I created a few goals for the month of January that includes increasing the gold flow, continuing to run world quest daily, run old world raids weekly, and to fill out my battle pet collection a little more by the end of the month.

Hopefully, I will be ready when the new raid drops on the 11th.

Warcraft Wednesday: 8.1 Drop!

So, I spent most of my time logged in to Warcraft today doing island expedition’s, World Quest, and leveling up a hunter alt.

It was nothing to fancy but it seems like leveling seems to be going quickly.

I am not sure what is pushing me to level up a hunter other than I haven’t had the class at max level. Otherwise, Warcraft today for me seemed to be very uneventful.

Funny thing is, the hunter is a gnome. Nothing particularly interesting other then mechanical pets. At this point I’m just doing the leveling up thing until the next raid teir is available for us middle of next month.

I don’t think we have spent enough time with the new patch for me to formulate a full opinion on it.

Warcraft Wednesday: Confessions Of A Raider? (or PVP’er!)

wowscrnshot_090218_011625.jpgI have been provided an idea for a segment for Zephirah’s Adventure Podcast that I would like to try. It will be called “Confessions Of A Raider” and similarly to the previous “Community Spotlight’s” there will be several questions for the participant to answer.

Obviously, these questions will be specific to raiding (or pvp) and the experience of the player.

If you would like to participate in the “Confessions Of A Raider / PVP’er!” please reach out to me via twitter @Zephirah_Zella or on Discord.

Thursday Thoughts: Azerite Gear

traits-azerite-interfaceI would like to start by saying that not everyone is in the loud minority that complain’s about everything that is wrong with the current state of World Of Warcraft. I also know that not everyone knows how to approach Blizzard with an appropriate suggestion to resolve the current issues. We as players need to remember that we are players and not a developer of games. At least the vast majority of us never actually designed a game from the ground up. Nor do we have the said skills to do so. Most of us need to learn our place in the world.

For the entitlement part of this situation, I guess the casuals casualed their way to casually high casual item level. You have to work for what you want even if you do not like how things are working out. I know that I do not like the Azerite system but I am not letting it be a focal point on how I play the game. I have always enjoyed pet battling and running old raid’s solo on my main and plethora of alts. Neither of them involve Azerite or the gear involved in that system. As a by product, I am gathering gold as a passive way to keep me above water and to purchase mats for raiding on Tuesday night’s with my raid team in Convert To Raid. The Rubber Chicken Coalition is a great group of people and I am super happy that they let me tag along on weekly basis.

The current issue with Azerite each piece has a predetermined set of traits that can not change under any circumstances. Even if a reforge was allowed on the item, it would cause a huge amount of gold and you may not get the trait that you are needing on that particular character that you would need. The randomness of it all seems to be janky at best. I know not everyone has the time or energy to spend trying to get the gear from lfr or normal due to work and family life. Also, for the ones who are suggesting to add Azerite pieces to mythic pluses, it will currently not fix the randomness of it all and it will remain the same situation.

With that all being said, I busted my butt to get my priest where she is currently. Is it great, no. However, I am making the most of the situation with what I have. I know I have to adjust around the gear I have. What I can say in a positive light for Azerite gear is that Blizzard is trying out a new way to do thing and it may take a little bit to perfect it. Now everything takes five minuets to fix or adjust in game. I know that the Warcraft team is making an effort to look at things, do their research, and apply changes to the gear that is the game currently. For that, I thank them for working so hard.

So, you are going to ask what it will take for the Azerite gear to be good? Take a look at your own games, specifically Warcraft. What worked in previous expansions? What did not and why? If something worked previously but was overpowered, how can you adjust it for the Azerite gear? What about your other IP’s like Diablo?

I had seen in one of the many forum post on the Blizzard website about “Azerite Rewiring”. It seems to be a semi-decent idea. It covers cost for redoing each ring of traits, and with each time you choose that it would randomize the traits in each ring with one of those said traits will always be there. Meaning each ring would have an improved base trait. I am not sure if this is something that is feasible from a development side. However, these are my thoughts and hopefully they will take a look at the loot!

Warcraft: Why do you play your faction?

Zephirah Gnome 2The lovely Z and Cinder had posted a wonderful question that I just had to answer!

Why do you play your faction? For starter’s, I play (or have been known) both Horde and Alliance; however, I do have my main currently on the Alliance side. I have, or at least for as long as I can remember, bounced back and forth between the factions with a plethora of alts.

At one point, Zephirah, the priest was a gnome. I have a rather lengthy roll play story for her. To make a long story short though Zephirah was a gnome working just outside of Stormwind at the king’s request, found out that her father died and wanted to go and find his body. She wanted a proper burial for him in the Stormwind with the rest of the hero’s. She in the process found out about what the Lich King was doing and decided to fight for Azeroth. To protect the land and slay all of the evil in the world around her. As she was fighting the magic of a Death Knight and a radical arcane mage mixed and she turned into a dragon. She ended up hiding out for a while until a Tauren Druid took care of her until she turned into her humanoid form again. The Druid, Mauimoo, did the best she could with the aid of what the Pandaren people had taught her.

However Mauimoo did not anticipate her to turn into an elf though. Zephirah Zephirah Gnomethanked Mauimoo and ventured to Teldrassil where she found that she felt like she did not belong there. She did some minor work for the city and when she was ready she fought against Garrosh Hellscream. After the fight her body went into a frenzy again and turned into a Blood Elf. Ever since then she has followed Khadgar and his teachings.

Zephirah always felt like she could never go back home in her elf form. She absolutely hates it. She wants to be normal again. A gnome.

So, yes boys and girls. I am bi-factional and proud.
