The podcast will now be recorded every Wednesday night and will be hosted in the blog’s discord server. I will be looking for a permanent co-host as well. The Community Spotlights will be once monthly for the podcast! For those of you that are live in the discord during the podcast, please remember that the podcast will have music played in between segments, and will not be on any other form. Feel free to check out and support the artist, music, band, video game, book, or art! I do not own the content being provided for the podcast and would strongly urge you to support them whenever you can!

If you are interested in being a permanent host, guest host for an episode or participate in the community spotlight’s, please feel free to tweet me @Zephirah_Zella or join my discord! Links are available in the show notes and at the end of every blog post.

Album Review: PTX Presents: Top Pop Vol 1

Pentatonix, (abbreviated PTX) is an acappella group from Arlington, Texas, consisting of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee. Their new album, PTX Presents: Top Pop Vol 1, was released April 13th and they will be doing a follow up tour in the summer. It marked their first album with Sallee and without Avi Kaplan.

I know I am going to sound overly critical here, and if you like the album, I truly am sorry.  I do not want to sound like a super fan of Avi, and I am, but I do not want to disregard the other talent here. I love their voices, all of them. Including the new guy, Matt, but I am really not feeling this album.

The first two songs, Attention and Finesse, seemed to be to fast. Attention in particular I felt like the higher register / vocal ranges shined but the lower vocal hid behind a tree.

As far as the third song, it was more about the arrangement of the two songs combined here. It was not bad, I would have like more of “Are you that somebody” or even that song covered as a single itself.

Havana, Perfect, Stay, and Feel It Still were just ok. They were not bad but did not wow me like PTX usually does.

Praying, with such an emotional message, I felt like it was lost here.

I usually love PTX, but this album was a miss.
