Community Spotlight: Navox!

navox.jpg1 You have been a co host on several different podcast for a while, how long have you been podcasting and what is your favorite thing about co hosting?

I really like to chat about things I am interested in. I’ve podcasted about tv shows/ movies and Warcraft. I’ve been playing Warcraft for a very long time and I love to have conversations with those folks who share the same interest in the game

2 What are some of the Wow community content you enjoy following? (podcast, blogs, videos, ect.)

The Starting Zone with Jason and Spencer, this is the World of Warcraft podcast if you want to know what’s going on in wow.

The Converted – I try to catch this live, but I will watch on the following Tuesday at work if I miss it.

FrazlCast – that one takes me 2 days to listen to on the way into work and going home. lol

Lagging Balls, The Instance, Rolling Restart, Hearthcast,  Of course Realm Maintenance

I used to try to listen to all of the wow community podcasts but I found that I do not listen enough to get through all of them before new podcasts are out.

Also, Non wow podcasts…. Stuff you should know, Gonna Geek, Branded in the 80s, Major Nelson Radio.

3 Do you have any advice for someone who is getting into creating fan made content (like podcasting, art, blogging, music, etc.)?

4 Can you tell us how you found WoW and what has kept you playing?

It was mainly the evolution in the mmo environment that brought me into wow. I had been playing Ultima Online, and then when Everquest came out, I swapped to EQ, and then when Warcraft was released my friends jumped the EQ ship and got me to reluctantly come along and the funny thing was, I hated wow at the start. It wasn’t EQ and I hated the 3rd person view. Lol. I really wasn’t liking the way everquest was going so I stuck it out with wow since my friends were all there and I’ve been in wow ever since.

5 What was the first ever character you rolled & Which factors determined your faction choice in the game at the time?

  • Do you still play on that faction and character?
  • What made you change?

The first character I ever rolled was a warrior but, that was the initial wave of me trying out wow. I actually do not have my original wow account. My buddy does.

The first toon I ever truly got involved with and adventured with is my Rogue. The 2nd time I was coaxed into playing wow with my friend Mark B and they needed a tank so I transported Navox from the Icy Tundra of the permafrost over to Azeroth.

6 What has been your most memorable moment in Warcraft and why?

Its hard to pick only one. If I had to pick one though it would be Heroic Siegecrafter in siege of orgrimmar this was before Mythic mode had come out and Siegecrafter was a roadblock. My raid group spent endless nights on this and we finally got it right before they nerfed it. It was one of the best memories.

7 With a new expansion on it’s way, what are you looking forward to most I’m “Battle For Azeroth”?

The Kul Tirans, I have been looking for a larger than human race for a long time.

8 With the return to the factional divide in “Battle For Azeroth”, Horde or Alliance?

Alliance

Community Spotlight: Thorn

thorn-lagging-balls-community-spotlight.png1 You are a co-host of the “Lagging Balls” Podcast, how did you get started with podcasting?

As a lover of existing Blizzard podcasts, I felt that I had my own community niche to reach that was somewhat underserved: the foul-mouthed bit! I also knew that Thyst and I had excellent chemistry. She and I had discussed podcasting many times but didn’t finally get started until I actually started a Heroes of the Storm video show with some other friends. It was a terrible failure, but it spurred us into action on our own work, finally!

2. Do you have any advice for someone who is getting into a creative things (like podcasting, art, blogging, music, etc.)?

Best advice I can give: make time for it and make it a part of your routine. It’ll never take off if you don’t DO IT and then stick with it! I guess what I’m saying is: don’t let your memes be dreams.

3. What are some of your favorite podcast to listen to?

Convert to Raid, The Instance, Film Sack, Battlenet Sports, Realm Maintenance, Rolling Restart, Azeroth Roundtable, Lords of the Storm, Gankbush Squad, Tauren Think Tank, Merely A Setback, Pod Save America, Hardcore History, Reply All, and my newest favorite: “Forever Frumunda: The Cheese Lover’s Podcast”

4. Other then podcast and video games, what is some of your hobbies?

I’m an animal lover (so much so that I became a Vegetarian), and I have two dogs and two cats whom I adore, spoil, and with whom I love to cuddle. I’ve become intrigued by politics lately and have been following that far more than I ever thought I would, and honestly one of my single biggest and most enjoyable hobbies is maintaining TLC with a variety of online communities across multiple platforms, with members in the tens of thousands!

5. What brought you into the playing Warcraft?

A set of friends who played Alliance and a set of friends who played Horde. Guess which friends I ended up liking better?

6. How often do you raid & What game mechanic do you like the most/least in WoW?

I raid six hours a week on two nights, with the heroic raid team (unofficially named “This Is Why We Don’t Stream”). Like: any mechanic that requires one person to step outside of their role to do something strange or unusual, such as arming a pod that drops shields for the raid or picking up a flamethrower to clear green goo from the fight! Least: RNG-based bosses like Coven in the current raid tier.

7. What is your favorite instance & boss fight (it can be from any expansion)?

Instance: Icecrown Citadel!
Boss: The Lich King!

8. With a new expansion on it’s way, what are you looking forward to most I’m “Battle For Azeroth”?

The reigniting of FACTION PRIDE!! Thyst and I are For The Horde through and through, but I’ve felt a disappointing lack of faction loyalty and pride over the past few years and I’m excited for that to return in earnest!

9. With the return to the factional divide in “Battle For Azeroth”, Horde or Alliance?

Don’t be ridiculous.

Zephirah’s Adventure: Podcast!

Community Spotlight: Thyst

ThystOn a weekly basis I am going to focus on a member of the Blizzard or gaming communities that I am a member of. As you can tell from the title, Community Spotlight, I did a short interview with Thyst. She is a host of Lagging Balls & also a regular on the podcast “Battle Net News”.  At the end of the interview you can see links for Lagging Balls & Thyst personal twitter.

Thank you so much Thyst for having Blood of the Scribe be a wonderful community on Bolderfist, you rock!

1.) What brought you into the playing Warcraft?

I started playing WoW because I had been playing the Warcraft games on my Father’s work laptop since I was a little kid (always Orc).

2.) How often do you play games (not just warcraft – but in general!)?

I play games every day. WoW every single day and Overwatch usually too. I raid three nights a week and never seem to run out of things to do in WoW.

3.) I know you have attended Blizzcon, what other conventions have you attended?

The only other conventions I’ve been to besides BlizzCon were some small-scale collector’s conventions in Ottawa, Ontario (my home province), and I got to go to C2E2 in Chicago a few years ago for an article I was writing. Got to meet Mike Mignola (creator of Hellboy) and I was so nervous I could hardly speak!

4.) What do you like most/least about conventions?

I like the passion that people bring for the things they love to conventions. It’s hard to find a social function with that much positivity and inclusiveness anywhere else.

5.) How often do you raid & What game mechanic do you like the most/least in WoW?

As I said, I raid three times a week. Twice with my main Heroic group and once with a Normal group. I absolutely love raiding (it might be my most favorite thing to do in game). Lately I’ve noticed a lot of “balls” or orbs in raid mechanics – seriously, think about it. Balls everywhere lately. I LOVE it. What I dislike the most is any mechanic that pulls or pushes me around – it’s hard to deal with movement mechanics like that sometimes as a Mage because I’d rather stand still please!

6.) What is your favorite instance & boss fight (it can be from any expansion)?

That’s a really hard question. I LOVED Elisande in Nighthold, and I love Eonar in Anotrus. Not sure either is my favourite, however. I’ll have to give that more thought I guess!

7.) You host a podcast, Lagging Balls, what are some of your favorite podcast to listen to?

This is an even harder question. I tend to make friends with the people who do my favourite Blizzard podcasts and I’d be scared to mention some while forgetting others. So besides all the wonderful and diverse Blizzard podcasts I love, my favourite podcast is SMODcast and it was the first podcast I ever listened to!

8.) With a new expansion on its way, what are you looking forward to the most in “Battle For Azeroth”?

For BfA I’m looking forward to a renewed interest in Faction pride. Mine has never ever wavered, but I delight in seeing people being proud of their faction (Horde especially, of course).

9.) If you could say anything to Ion, your crush, what would that be?

If I could say anything to Ion right now I think it would be, “I’m sorry.”
