Alt-a-holic: Revenge of the Alts, Part 2!

WoWScrnShot_033018_232449
Zelodie, Tauren Paladin

Meet Zelodie, the Tauren Paladin, on Bolderfist. Proud Member of Blood Of The Scribe.

She is my first 110 horde toon for the legion expansion.

Did I happen to mention that she is a boosted toon? No. Well, she is boosted. I am also very nervous to say that I am going to be tanking with her. That should be interesting because I have not had a max level Paladin since Cataclysm.

For now, what I would like to do with her is to complete the Surmar quest chain to unlock the allied races, then to attempt mythic 5 man dungeons. Nothing more then 5’s. I am more wanting to get my feet wet and see if I feel confident enough to continue tanking or if I should give the DPS spec a go.

Thank you for reading the post! If you would like to talk about your alts, battle pets, Warcraft in general, or any other topic please feel free to drop in to the blogs discord!

Community Spotlight: OldManFranks

oldmanfranks community spotlight1. What brought you into the playing Warcraft?

I played a lot of Warcraft 2 and 3, so I was decently familiar with the universe. Especially after 3 and it’s expac, I was very excited to see where they would take the story next. I was shocked, and actually quite horrified, when it was announced they were making an MMO. All I knew about MMOs was Everquest, that people paid every MONTH to play it and that thousands of people were playing in the same world. How on earth could you advance the story of a world that doesn’t change? Eventually, in my senior year of college, I had three friends, Akin, Jeff, and David, who were all playing, and I got to watch them. I was intrigued. I started researching the game, figuring out what race and class I would play, and eventually, in August of 2005, I bought the game. I haven’t talked to any of those guys in years. We just sort of lost touch after college. I don’t know if they’re still playing, but I hope things are going well for them. I’ve met a truly massive number of people who have become great friends thanks to those guys, and I don’t know if I can ever thank them enough for it.

2. You are a member of the Alea Iacta East guild on Earthen Ring, how did you originally hear about the guild and what drew you into wanting to join?

I was, and still am, a big fan of Scott Johnson, the host of the Instance podcast (among many many others now), so when I heard they were establishing a guild for fans of the show, I was ready to make an alt and join up. I was there on my troll rogue on the very first days. I even got to be present for what may have been the very first guild event, a gathering in front of Sylvanas Windrunner as she performed Lament of the Highborne. Everyone else was kneeling in respect. Me, I had my troll dancing around like an irreverent idiot. Eventually, I decided I didn’t have the time to split between those guys and what was my home server at the time, so I deleted the rogue and stuck with my main characters. However, my guild was falling apart, my real friends mentioned above were logging in less and less frequently, and, well, I was a bit bored. So I transferred my very first alt, a tauren druid, over to Earthen Ring and joined up. And soon that druid became my most played character. I joined a raid team within the guild, a real fun group of guys and girls doing Karazhan casually, and just had a ball. Fast forward to the time that the Sunwell patch dropped. I fully expected the new content would draw my friends back into the game. For a solid week, I played exclusively on my old server, doing the Isle of Quel’danas quests, and waiting. And waiting. For one week, not one of my old friends or former guild mates logged in. At the end of that week, I transferred my remaining two characters to Earthen Ring and never looked back. I’m AIE for life, now.

3. You have a blog, what is the best thing about blogging?

The fact that it’s your own personal forum to talk about whatever you like. A given blogger is a unique entity that has their own opinions, viewpoints, and ideas. No one else out there will have them in the exact same way. It’s a good feeling when you share your own viewpoint and people not only read it, but leave likes or comments.

4. Do you have any advice for someone who is getting into a creative things (like podcasting, art, blogging, music, etc.)?

1 Find a way to motivate yourself. If it comes naturally to you, awesome. Let it come and don’t hesitate to write (or otherwise create) when the inspiration strikes. If it doesn’t, set yourself a metric. My own personal one is at least one post a week. Keep track of it with a calendar (physical or digital) and stick to it! 2. Jot down ideas somewhere to reference later. There’s nothing worse for me than thinking of a great blog idea and not remembering it later when I have time to flesh it out. 3. Practice practice practice. It’s the only way you’ll get better. 4. Things we create are a reflection of who we are, do not be afraid to let it reflect you.

5. What are some of your favorite blogs to read?

I read a lot of the standard WoW gaming blogs like Blizzard Watch, MMO Champion, and ever Massively Overpowered (mostly for SWTOR news). I also try my best to read every submission to the Z and Cinder Blogging challenge, even if I’m not always able to read their non-challenge-related posts. And my lovely wife has a blog of her own of course, discussing faith and life and parenting and anything else on her amazing mind.

6. How often do you raid & What game mechanic do you like the most/least in WoW?

I currently raid twice a week with my friends in the Flexy Encounters Raid Team. I’m not sure I have a favorite mechanic that I can think of, but I absolutely hate overly-unforgiving mechanics in normal mode raiding. Stuff that if one person slips up once, it makes the rest of the fight unwinnable. In heroic and mythic, sure, that sort of thing absolutely belongs there, but as Normal has replaced Flexible as the new “friends and family” mode, I hate it when a boss fight is overly unforgiving at that level. I saw a lot of that in Warlords, and it almost broke my team up. Luckily, we stuck it out.

7. What is your favorite instance & boss fight (it can be from any expansion)?

Oh, I have so many incredible memories raiding. I think the two fights I got the most invested in wanting to see the bosses just DIE because they were evil sons of troggs were the Lich King and Garrosh Hellscream. The latter because I seriously had hated him and wanted him to eat a fireball since Wrath, and the former because I’d been invested in his story from the beginning. I actually have amusing stories surrounding both my first kills of Arthas in 10- and 25-man mode. For the 10-man, I almost missed raid because I thought I was supposed to go out of town to see friends that weekend. Turns out I got the date wrong, but by the time I got home, raid had started and they’d replaced me for the night with a friend and fellow mage named Sangu. So I got dinner, chatted with my then-girlfriend (now-wife) on the phone, and generally messed around in game. Then I got a tell from our main tank, turns out Sangu was having internet issues and they wanted me to join for one last attempt on Arthas for the night. Right as we pulled, Sangu came back on & we killed Arthas for the first time on that last attempt. Sangu was cursing at Comcast and claiming I stole the kill. And of course, I teased him for ages about us getting it immediately after getting rid of him and bringing me in. Heh.

For the 25-man kill, my computer locked up mid-fight. I couldn’t get it to do anything, but I could somehow still hear and talk in voice chat. My team were trying so hard to work around me just standing there and eventually started using me as a soak for the Vile Spirits. I expected to die, but somehow our healers kept me alive. Eventually, my computer responded again and shut the game down…and then I heard the cheers and whoops. They’d gotten him to 10% and the RP had commenced. I furiously tried to log back in…and came back in, alive. I had missed the Lich King’s insta-kill mechanic. So with my teammates cheering me on, I began spamming spells while the Lich King rambled on about luring us into a trap. It was hilarious, a truly memorable end to our first 25-man kill.

8. With a new expansion on it’s way, what are you looking forward to most I’m “Battle For Azeroth”?

I’m tempering a lot of my hype for BFA because the basic premise we’ve been given, an expansion centered on the faction conflict, does NOT spark my interest. I’m of the opinion that the faction conflict has long ceased to be narratively interesting, and I really do not care for having yet another seemingly evil Warchief. I hated it with Garrosh, I do not want it back with Sylvanas. The fact that Thrall and Vol’jin are supposed to play major roles in this expansion has me filled with hope, as when I started playing, I loved being a part of the Horde as Thrall had shaped its identity. This quote from his trailer in Heroes of the Storm encapsulates it perfectly. “We came to this world as exiles and outcasts, but together, we can be more. A weapon to break the chains of oppression. A bastion for the hunted and the lost. A family bound by blood and honor. And if our enemies do not give us peace, we will give them WAR! Victory or death! This I pledge as your Warchief: until the end of days I live and die FOR THE HORDE!” That’s the Horde I want back, and I’m hoping that we get it, eventually. Aside from that, I’m hopeful for more and more Allied Races. I love the idea and want as many as possible!

9. With the return to the factional divide in “Battle For Azeroth”, Horde or Alliance?

I would love to say it with enthusiasm, but honestly, the only reason my answer is “Horde” right now is because there’s no way I’ll convince all of my friends to swap factions. But the current Horde we’re seeing in Battle for Azeroth’s previews and alpha news isn’t the Horde I was proud to be a part of in Vanilla, BC, and Wrath.

10. Where can people find you on the Internet?

Best place to seek me out is on twitter. I’m at twitter.com/thebmatt. Aside from that, follow my blog where I talk about WoW stuff and occasionally some SWTOR. yourquestlogisfull.wordpress.com. I’ll be responding to every challenge that Z and Cinder list, and I just started a new series called “Five Things” in which I talk about five interesting things about each of my characters, such as why I created them, the origins of their name, interesting points of their backstory, and the like.

Community Spotlight: WickedKitten13

Wicked Kitten 131.) What drew you into Blizzard Games?
This might be a bit long. Giggity. About 6 years ago I was introduced to the Frogpants community through TMS, Film Sack… basically most things Scott Johnson. I have always wanted to do something in radio or voice work but I’ve always been too scared. This community is really pulling me out of my shell. In 2015, I finally had the courage to fly all the way to Utah to be at my first Nerdtacular. I had never been anywhere alone, where I didn’t know a soul. I was scared and decided to stay in my room. I tweeted out into the universe “It’s hard being an ambivert”, with the NT15 hashtag. I got a response back, “Hey, we’re your people. Come find us.” This is how I met my good friends Jayonce, Marconin and Jules. It was at The Instance panel. I watched a cinematic that filled my heart, a beautiful world with amazing characters. I heard stories of people making lifelong friends and even falling in love and moving across the country. I met Chris Metzen and Russell Brower, they were the kindest, chillest dudes. And at The Angry Chicken panel I was already downloading Hearthstone. I went home and bought a computer, and the first thing I did was download Warcraft. Because of the friends I made there I was encouraged to come to BlizzCon. It was the most fun I had ever had and made even more friends within the CTR and AIE communities. I got my first taste of Heroes of the Storm. Honestly, I fell in love. It was at this point that I started my romance with Heroes. There is no other company like Blizzard. They are part of the reason I have my family of nerds, why I stream their games. They’ve indirectly given me a voice and a dream job to shoot for. Blizzard is like gravity and my communities are the air. I’m so full of sap, but these people mean the world to me.
2.) You stream competitive Hero’s, when did you start streaming?
I started streaming a little over a year ago as part of a group called Tadpool Plays with Dicetomato and Wigdete33. We stream not only Blizzard but other interesting games as well. This experience, and unemployment, gave me the courage to start streaming on my own. I became an affiliate in November and decided to get more serious about it. It really has become something I get excited for.
3.) What esports teams are you cheering on?
I am a HUGE Dignitas fan. Even with James Baker leaving, it’s still a great team with heart and sophistication. #HGC
4.) What are some of your favorite streamers / streams to watch?
Scott Johnson, of course and FeriouslySteph. Since I’m mostly about growing the community I watch smaller streamers. Mageadeath for Hearthstone, G0r4th for Heroes, AfroHorsey and Brian Dunaway for variety streams.
5.) Do you have any advice for someone who is getting into a creative things (like podcasting, art, blogging, music, etc.)?
I’m still figuring it all out myself so I don’t think I’m the one to ask for advice. I will paraphrase great advice that I’ve been given: “You are never trapped or stuck, you just haven’t found the way out yet.” “Sometimes you just need to jump into the scary.” “Do what you love, as often as you can.” Ok I will say this… Be kind, be yourself. People can always see who you really are.
6.) Hearthstone’s new expansion is super fun! How are you doing in ranked play with the new cards & decks?
I am an incredibly relaxed ranked Hearthstone player. The highest I’ve ever gotten is 14 or 15. That said I am loving my modified Warlock deck. Modified because I’m poor.
7.) What hero would you bring to Heroes Of The Storm (or Hearthstone) & why?
Yrel would be amazing in the Nexus! Don’t tell anyone but I’m a Warlords baby and my first toon was a space goat shaman. Also, Mercy from OW because “dem hips”!
8.) You have an awesome community around you! What is the best thing about interacting with in the community?
Being part of the Frogpants community, and all these sister communities has changed my life. My favourite thing is I have all my friends wherever I go. If I have a bad day and want to cry, or I have a good day and want to celebrate. I always have amazing people in my phone and in my heart. They also happen to be some of the smartest and funniest people I’ve ever known.
Wicked Kitten 13 kittys9.) According to your cute name & Twitter page, you like cats. Any particular cat you love?
Kit Kats are pretty good. I like most cats. I loved my little Butterscotch who I lost about a year ago and my sweet Greyson who loves belly rubs.
10.) Where can people find you on the Internet?
You can find me on: Twitter @Wickedkitten13 or Twitch.tv/Wickedkitten13

Zephirah’s Adventure: Podcast!

Community Spotlight: Scott Johnson

scott johnson1.) For those of us that hide under a rock, you are a cartoonist, where do you get your inspiration from?

Most of the time it’s simple everyday stuff, with some pop culture thrown in. Sci Fi, fantasy, tv shows, books, video games…all of it. All of my interests have a way of sneaking into my sketchbook. 🙂

2.) You host a plethora of different podcast on a wide array of games & topics. What is the best thing about hosting all of these shows?

Interacting with the audience and community. It’s like nothing I’ve ever encountered in my life and I love that it continues to grow. It really is my online family in a very real way.

3.) What are some of the podcast you enjoy listening to?

I really like a lot of NPR shows. Radio Lab, This American Life, etc. Something about essay style content that really drives me. Hope to do more of that myself soon.

4.) Do you have any advice for someone who is getting into a creative things (like podcasting, art, blogging, music, etc.)?

Just start. Don’t wait for some arbitrary moment or time when everything is “perfect”. There’s no such thing. Start creating, put yourself out there, and grow it!

5.) Nerdtacular is an annual gathering of a great community at Snowbird. Any ideas in the works for 2018?

We are trying some different things from 2018 on. Smaller events, more regional events, etc. Our first of 2018 is a Morning Stream event in April in Las Vegas!

6.) Blizzcon is a great event, what is your favorite thing about the event?

This is another case wanting to mention the community again. I have made so many great relationships at Blizzcon, and having fans and friends there is just a blast. I love the company and the games, but it really is at it’s best when communities can get together and share their lives with each other.

7.) What got you into Warcraft?

Been a Blizz fan since WC1, so it was a no brainer. I played the alpha, beta, and release and loved every second of it. There was nothing quite like it in 2004, and maybe since.

8.) How often do you raid in WoW & what game mechanic do you like the most / least about the game?

I am not raiding much right now…kind of waiting for the new expansion before I sink another huge chunk of time in the game. When I was raiding, I think my favorite mechanic was everyone telling me to get out of the fire. 🙂

9.) The Instance podcast has been a fan favorite for a long time. On that note, what is your favorite instance & boss fight (this can be from any expansion & can include 5 man dungeons)?

Gotta be the Lich King fight in Wrath. Was amazing, and when we finally beat that thing, it was the most excitement I had ever had in the game. The entire 25 man team was yelling into their mics and I’ve still not felt anything quite like that since.

10.) With a new expansion on it’s way, what are you looking forward to most I’m “Battle For Azeroth”?

Probably the zone leveling changes. I love questing and building out a character. Now they are giving me a whole new reason to do that in areas and zones I miss from long ago. Excited to be back in Panda land again. I loved that expansion. I’m also pretty excited about the randomized island stuff. Really scratches my Diablo itch.

Welcome!

Hi, My name is Andrea. I am giving this a go as a new years resolution. I am not sure where this will take me, but I am up for trying!

I am a World Of Warcraft player. I am a proud member of the Convert to Raid community on the Aerie Peak server.  I have been playing wow since Cataclysm. (Shortly before actually. However I am not counting that!) I also have toon’s in Alea Iacta Est on Earthen Ring. Since we were talking about New Year’s Resolutions, my goal for Battle For A zeroth is to have every class and spec at max level. For the Horde & Alliance.

I have been in CTR (Convert To Raid) for three and a half years. Not that AIE is a bad guild. I just wanted to play Alliance a little more this expansion. I figured since I shown interest in being an officer of the guild to pull my priest Zephirah, the toon that I have had since day one, into the Alliance fold.

I do; however, miss the Horde side of things. A lot more then I thought I would. AIE has a lot of good people. They do equal CTR for great people & lets face it the two guilds have been wonderful in a plethora of way’s. Yes, every guild has its issues. Especially mega guilds like these two are. Nothing is perfect or what you ever expect it to be. I do think though, you get what you put into it. If you are a positive person that tries, then you will not go unnoticed. Kindness in and out of video games is very important. Everyone has a bit of awesome in them, even behind the pixels.

With that being said, I recently have joined a different guild for the Horde. Blood of The Scribe. It is very different then the previous two guilds. The others are very PG13 and BotS is very NC17. If you happen to drop an F bomb or dirty joke, it is fine. Just as long as your not a complete butt-head and being rude to people, then you are fine. I am falling in love with this guild quickly. For all the personalities & quick witted things we see in guild chat.

So, that’s my Warcraft story. I also enjoy Diablo, Starcraft & Hearthstone.  I currently do not play Overwatch on my pc but on my brother’s Xbox, every once and a while. I pretty much enjoy everything Blizzard has produced.

Other then video games, I enjoy a wide array of music. Rock, Heavy Metal, Alternative, Industrial, Electronica, Dubstep. There are few pop related songs I like, but not much. I can have full conversations about a bunch of artist that I love.

I also enjoy reading and would love to read a novel a month for the year 2018.

My goal / New Years Resolution for this space is to wright blogs about video games (not just blizzard stuff even though that will be the biggest focus!), Music, Book’s that I would be reading or would like to read, and any other random geeky things I find to be interesting.

I believe at the moment I would like to publish three days a week. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It will very on what the post will contain but the goal here is to have fun. I will post a  topic schedule soon!

Thank you for reading! Happy New year! I wish you a happy 2018 & good times!

Rock on ~ Andrea AKA Zephirah
