Community Spotlight: Thyst

ThystOn a weekly basis I am going to focus on a member of the Blizzard or gaming communities that I am a member of. As you can tell from the title, Community Spotlight, I did a short interview with Thyst. She is a host of Lagging Balls & also a regular on the podcast “Battle Net News”.  At the end of the interview you can see links for Lagging Balls & Thyst personal twitter.

Thank you so much Thyst for having Blood of the Scribe be a wonderful community on Bolderfist, you rock!

1.) What brought you into the playing Warcraft?

I started playing WoW because I had been playing the Warcraft games on my Father’s work laptop since I was a little kid (always Orc).

2.) How often do you play games (not just warcraft – but in general!)?

I play games every day. WoW every single day and Overwatch usually too. I raid three nights a week and never seem to run out of things to do in WoW.

3.) I know you have attended Blizzcon, what other conventions have you attended?

The only other conventions I’ve been to besides BlizzCon were some small-scale collector’s conventions in Ottawa, Ontario (my home province), and I got to go to C2E2 in Chicago a few years ago for an article I was writing. Got to meet Mike Mignola (creator of Hellboy) and I was so nervous I could hardly speak!

4.) What do you like most/least about conventions?

I like the passion that people bring for the things they love to conventions. It’s hard to find a social function with that much positivity and inclusiveness anywhere else.

5.) How often do you raid & What game mechanic do you like the most/least in WoW?

As I said, I raid three times a week. Twice with my main Heroic group and once with a Normal group. I absolutely love raiding (it might be my most favorite thing to do in game). Lately I’ve noticed a lot of “balls” or orbs in raid mechanics – seriously, think about it. Balls everywhere lately. I LOVE it. What I dislike the most is any mechanic that pulls or pushes me around – it’s hard to deal with movement mechanics like that sometimes as a Mage because I’d rather stand still please!

6.) What is your favorite instance & boss fight (it can be from any expansion)?

That’s a really hard question. I LOVED Elisande in Nighthold, and I love Eonar in Anotrus. Not sure either is my favourite, however. I’ll have to give that more thought I guess!

7.) You host a podcast, Lagging Balls, what are some of your favorite podcast to listen to?

This is an even harder question. I tend to make friends with the people who do my favourite Blizzard podcasts and I’d be scared to mention some while forgetting others. So besides all the wonderful and diverse Blizzard podcasts I love, my favourite podcast is SMODcast and it was the first podcast I ever listened to!

8.) With a new expansion on its way, what are you looking forward to the most in “Battle For Azeroth”?

For BfA I’m looking forward to a renewed interest in Faction pride. Mine has never ever wavered, but I delight in seeing people being proud of their faction (Horde especially, of course).

9.) If you could say anything to Ion, your crush, what would that be?

If I could say anything to Ion right now I think it would be, “I’m sorry.”

Featured Story: “The Egg” by Anthony Weir

Andy_Weir_at_NASA_JSC-crop
Andy Weir

Last Friday’s post featured Andy Weir’s “The Martian” novel.

While looking around the web to learn more about the author, I found a short story called “The Egg”. It is available to read online for free. The link for it is here!

I also wanted to link the video adaptation from YouTube here as well. Enjoy!

Mythic Progression: Thought’s & Theory’s

With the last raid of the expansion and the top ten already on the board for completing the mythic version, I had some thoughts. I know this is old news; however, I wanted to put this out in the ether.

Limit, one of the top notch raiding guilds in mid December allegedly had a member of their own guild ddos another player so that he could have a healing spot over another player. From the guild Jeathebelle’s twitter had stated that it was apparent that it had happened although it was over a period of time.

Essentially, the guild did some research, found that the guildy in question provided a link to an IP scraper that forced the other to be offline and popped in to take the spot.

This was such a crappy move to do. I have not seen any other guilds having a similar issue. Warcraft as a whole has been effected by ddos attacks, but not a singular guild or a singular player. Now I am not saying that Limit is a bad guild or that the officer’s should have known. What I am saying is the player was on the bench. He eventually would have made it through but because he was greedy and wanted the achievement right away he caused another person to miss out.

At the end of the day, from the biggest raiding guild to the smallest five man instance groups, if your nice and play fair then eventually will have your goals in game happen. It takes one person to make it a bad situation but we can turn things around.

From what I understand, the guy is no longer in the guild – nor do I expect him to be. He did do this to himself. I just hope that eventually he will learn a lesson. Be able to change & to be part of the greater good of what Azeroth & raiding in Warcraft has to offer.

Ultimately, I will always cheer Limit and each individual of the guild on. However, the question needs to be asked. How long is appropriate to punish a player for doing such a thing? If he happens to never do this again and go back, should they tell him no? Should he be in any guild at all for his actions?

I guess that is something that each community has to think about. I just hope that this does not happen again in the community as a whole. Trolling will always be there, I know, I just want things to be better. I also know I can not control what other people do. I just enjoy people and what they have to offer as a good member of the community.

Long story short. Don’t be a jerk & enjoy raiding at whatever level you choose!

Friday’s Book In Review: The Martian!

Andy_Weir_at_NASA_JSC-cropPreface: In Early November, I visited my local Goodwill (a thrift store) to see what I could purchase for family and friends during the Christmas season. When you first walk in there is a set of bins that you can shuffle through. Mostly old phone cases, small bags, scarf’s, and hats. I came across a purple iPad mini case that was purple. Purple is my favorite color, so I picked it up and it was slightly heavier then I thought the case should be. I flipped open the case, and found a kindle inside. I was sort of stunned. I payed three dollars for a five dollar case and a one hundred dollar device. The great people at amazon helped me update the firmware and reset and register the device under my name. Thank you Amazon. You guys rock!

The Martian is a science fiction novel by Andy Weir that was self published in 2011 that was adapted into a film featuring Matt Damon in 2015. There were several place’s around the web, including Good Read’s that has suggest this book to me. The story follows an American astronaut, Mark Watney, as he becomes stranded alone on Mars in the year 2035 after the rest of his crew believes he is dead after a dust storm.

Mark Watney is logging everything he can and tries desperately to repair the communications dish to let NASA know he is alive.

I do not want to spoil the story for anyone who has not read the book or watched the movie; however, Weir was very much inspired by science to wright this book. He worked very hard to have accurate information. There is not a lot of fluff. It is very clean in its approach to the science. I really am enjoying the pace of the book so far.

I just started reading the book but as you can see I am really enjoying it. After reading the book, I will definitely watch the movie.

Weekly Reset: Upcoming Events in Azeroth!

The fireworks celebration in game on Monday was awesome! I always enjoy them at the end of the year. Now we are looking forward at what this month has in store for us!

From now to the 9th of January the Battleground Bonus Event is up! Starting Sunday, January 7th to Saturday, January 13th the Darkmoon Faire is back. I have always loved the concerts there and to gather all of the pets! Even the petting zoo at the Darkmoon Faire is fun. To learn more about the Darkmoon Faire visit Blizzard’s page here or WoWhead’s page here for a guide!

January 9th to the 16th is the Legion Dungeon Event. That means that while the event is active, the final boss of each Legion dungeon awards an extra item when defeated!

The weekly event for the 16th of January to the 23rd is Pet Battles! While the event is active, your pets will earn experience at triple the usual rate! So, get out there and battle. During this event as well you will have a quest to defeat five players at a PvP Pet battle. You can earn charms for this & it is worth it! Also, as a tip, you should be doing your garrison (and yes your garrison still exist!) menagerie daily quest and any world quest on the Broken Shore. That will also earn you pet charms.  If you need help setting up your menagerie, wowhead has a wonderful guide that will help you along here!

From the 23rd to the 30th Burning Crusade Time walking! Call of the Scarab is January 21st to the 23rd & last but not least, the Kirin Tor Tavern Crawl is January 30th!

This month has a lot to do! Good luck and may your drops be legendary!

Welcome!

Hi, My name is Andrea. I am giving this a go as a new years resolution. I am not sure where this will take me, but I am up for trying!

I am a World Of Warcraft player. I am a proud member of the Convert to Raid community on the Aerie Peak server.  I have been playing wow since Cataclysm. (Shortly before actually. However I am not counting that!) I also have toon’s in Alea Iacta Est on Earthen Ring. Since we were talking about New Year’s Resolutions, my goal for Battle For A zeroth is to have every class and spec at max level. For the Horde & Alliance.

I have been in CTR (Convert To Raid) for three and a half years. Not that AIE is a bad guild. I just wanted to play Alliance a little more this expansion. I figured since I shown interest in being an officer of the guild to pull my priest Zephirah, the toon that I have had since day one, into the Alliance fold.

I do; however, miss the Horde side of things. A lot more then I thought I would. AIE has a lot of good people. They do equal CTR for great people & lets face it the two guilds have been wonderful in a plethora of way’s. Yes, every guild has its issues. Especially mega guilds like these two are. Nothing is perfect or what you ever expect it to be. I do think though, you get what you put into it. If you are a positive person that tries, then you will not go unnoticed. Kindness in and out of video games is very important. Everyone has a bit of awesome in them, even behind the pixels.

With that being said, I recently have joined a different guild for the Horde. Blood of The Scribe. It is very different then the previous two guilds. The others are very PG13 and BotS is very NC17. If you happen to drop an F bomb or dirty joke, it is fine. Just as long as your not a complete butt-head and being rude to people, then you are fine. I am falling in love with this guild quickly. For all the personalities & quick witted things we see in guild chat.

So, that’s my Warcraft story. I also enjoy Diablo, Starcraft & Hearthstone.  I currently do not play Overwatch on my pc but on my brother’s Xbox, every once and a while. I pretty much enjoy everything Blizzard has produced.

Other then video games, I enjoy a wide array of music. Rock, Heavy Metal, Alternative, Industrial, Electronica, Dubstep. There are few pop related songs I like, but not much. I can have full conversations about a bunch of artist that I love.

I also enjoy reading and would love to read a novel a month for the year 2018.

My goal / New Years Resolution for this space is to wright blogs about video games (not just blizzard stuff even though that will be the biggest focus!), Music, Book’s that I would be reading or would like to read, and any other random geeky things I find to be interesting.

I believe at the moment I would like to publish three days a week. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It will very on what the post will contain but the goal here is to have fun. I will post a  topic schedule soon!

Thank you for reading! Happy New year! I wish you a happy 2018 & good times!

Rock on ~ Andrea AKA Zephirah
