MTG Monday: Akroma

Magic-The-Gathering-card backIn Magic! The Gathering I am so enthralled with angel cards. That is what started me on my journey with the table top game in the first place. I wanted to feature a foe of the angels that caught my eye in the first place.

Akroma, was a sentient illusion, created by Ixidor on Dominaria in the image of his lost wife, Nivea, who was killed by Phage in her premier pit fight.

To hear her story, watch the following video:

Akroma, Angel of Wrath, released with the Onslaught expert-level block expansion Legion in January 2003. You can take a look at the card here for more information.

MTG Monday: The Price Is Right?

Magic-The-Gathering-card backRecently I was on Facebook poking around and stumbled upon their marketplace section. Out of curiosity, I searched for MTG cards.

I did not find a lot of entries; however, the few entries that popped up were interesting. One of the entries listed was a few boxes full of them listed for a dollar. Looks like the guy is really wanting to get rid of them but it also looks like the guy has been collecting for longer then I have been alive. So, there is no way to pull a fast one on an grandmother trying to get things out of her basement.

Other entries listed were similar. With the exception of a few cards being listed for varying prices.

Question is, with my collection being “newer” how would I know I am not being swindled? Or are the listed items actually a good deal?

It is hard to tell from the internet unless you actually talk to the seller. Even then, it could go really good or really badly.

MTG: Ajani!

I am super excited about a recent set of cards I had picked up! I finally after waiting for a while picked up a booster with a guaranteed Ajani, Wise Counselor card.

EEP!

I feel like I have a little more wind beneath my wings with a set of cards that are now available to me. So what is the next step? Locally there are sessions to play Wednesday and Friday nights. I believe Wednesday’s we have to pay to play. I would need to do some research to confirm.

If I decide to venture out and actually get involved with this type of play I will make a post about my experience and how the game went.

I may be a MTG noob, but I am a happy noob!

MTG Monday: At The Ready?

Magic-The-Gathering-card backThe major point of gathering cards for Magic! The Gathering is the intent to actually play. Sooner rather then later to not just have your cards sit on a shelf and collect dust.

Art can come in a plethora of ways; however, Magic! The Gathering is a fantastic way of using the art that you have collected.

I am currently looking for a group to play with and I have a few options. A few meaning a total of two. One option is to use Roll20. The second being a local store that sells cards and a plethora of other collectibles for Magic, D&D, Pokemon and various other things. I would rather play locally for various reasons.

I tend to learn things better when it is right in front of me. I dont totally suck at the game but learning how to improve and what I would need to fill out a deck would be great.

I will be looking into the local group here soon to see what I can figure out and report back.

MTG Monday: Holy land cards Batman!

Magic-The-Gathering-card backI over a weekend had put over two hundred cards into the MTGGoldfish site. Not including the land cards. I know I have a few hundred of those of well. I know at one point or another I counted them and promptly forgot that number.

All I know that there are a boat load of them that I have.

My attempt for entering them into the site has been nothing short of daunting. I am close to just paying my little brother to input them into the database for me.

Not that I am being lazy or anything. I did put a few of the cards in. I found out, and remember kids this is just due to the data MTGGoldfish has, one of my land cards are in the seventeen dollar range and has held steady there for the last few weeks.

On that note, holy land cards Batman! It is such a process to go through to find the correct one in the vast list. I know I eventually will have them all entered though – even if I have the extra help from my brother.

MTG: Deck Box’s

Magic-The-Gathering-card backFor those of us that actively play Magic! The Gathering and travel with your cards to a location it is worth investing something to protect them.

Some collectors and players spend hundreds, if not thousands on their entire deck. Recently, an Alpha Black Lotus in mint condition sold for $87,672.00. That is a single card. I am not in anyway surprised by the number but lets face it – even for my noobish set of cards – I still want to protect my investments.

I did a search via Amazon and there are so many options available to us. Ultra PRO is the most common on the market for deck case’s. Nothing to fancy about their basic ones – usually a solid color with their logo on the top.

On that note, I found quite a few box’s that I fell in love with on Etsy. WendersWonder’s has a few options available and they are all beautiful. You can find their shop here.

So, long story short. Support artist that you like and protect your stuff all at the same time. Heck, even if it is some three ring binder with card sleeve’s and some unique art that someone had made for you to put in the front of the binder, that would be cool as well!

Magic! The Gathering: Noob By Nature!

Magic-The-Gathering-card backWhen I stated in my previous Monday’s post that I was going to work on putting my cards in the MTGGoldfish database; however, I did not expect to be so enthralled and it take over a lot of my downtime.

I initially wanted to do twenty to twenty five in a day that would take me about ten to twelve days to enter everything in excluding my duplicate’s and the land cards that I have in my current collection. As of right now I have two hundred and fifty nine cards total. Of those cards I have one Mythic and twenty one rares.

According to the site, the grand total of the cards I have is currently $73 total. I was informed to make sure to cross reference the cards with several other sites and to not take the $66 at face value for a few reasons. The first reason, there are different places that could put a higher or lower value on the cards depending on the sheer volume of print of one particular card. Some cards are more common then others. I know this seems to be obvious to the players that have had their hands in the game for a while but for a newer player that is not as obvious.

I have mentioned that I am a noob, right? Right. I am learning though.

AjaniI currently know that I want to build a deck around my Serra Angel card. My little brother mentioned if I ever want to get into a field of play that involves tournaments to and to win said tournaments – I would need to spend some time investing in angel token cards, and others to flush out a few options for possible deck’s. The first card he had suggested to me is Ajani. I fell in love quickly as soon as I started playing a few years ago with what the white deck’s had to offer and I started to ask questions. Based on all the conversations with a few people, I have had thus far is suggesting to me that a white and green combination of cards for a deck is the best choice for me.

Excuse me while my nerdy noobishness is showing!
